Tips for choosing the right reception site
|
It may be love at first sight, but before you plunk down a sizeable deposit on that fabulous reception site, there are a few things you need to know. Here are a few tips, courtesy of WeddingChannel.com
Number Crunch: It's essential that you find out how many receptions a day your location holds - you don't want to be rushed out after your big day nor do you want to wait for someone else to clear out so your big day can begin. Also check to see whether there are extra fees if your party runs beyond the allotted time.
You'll need about two hours to set up, so if yours is a dinner reception, ask if there are any day-time events, such as a luncheon, taking place before your party.
Room with a View: Take a good look around the space. I there room for all those moments such as the first dance and the throwing of the bouquet? The room may be a perfect fit for cocktails for 200, but not big enough for a sit-down dinner and dancing.
Food for Thought: Nearly all reception sites have their own kitchen or in-house caterer, but ask some detailed questions if there are item you must have on your menu. You'll know whether the reception staff can provide what you want.
Park it Here: Make sure there is adequate and easy parking for all your guests. Ask if you can pay for the valet and tips ahead of time, too.
Outside Influences: Sometimes the on-site caterer can't provide what you must have - a particular wine or vintage or perhaps some sought-after goodie for the cocktail party. Check to see whether or not you'll be able to hire an outside vendor to complete your plans. This is the perfect time, too, to inquire about cake cutting or corkage fees.
Are you Insured? As they say, anything can happen, so be sure the caterer or reception site carries insurance.
The Wedding's Off! When you determine how much deposit is required, also ask about whether the deposit will be returned in case of cancellation and what the site's policy is on cancellations.
Don't Tune Them Out: Believe it or not, many locations have noise ordinances, so if you're planning a big blow-out that lasts until the wee hours, find out about the laws on this.
At Your Service: Lick in on who will be supervising your wedding. Will it be the banquet manager or some other member of the staff? you need to be absolutely certain you have a good working relationship and feel confident this person can handle any mishaps that might occur on the big day.
Tip Top: Finally, make sure the ballroom or location you are renting is clean and in great condition - no frayed carpets or blown - out bulbs in the chandeliers. Is the silver polished, and are the linens laundered?
