Wedding Gown Designer Amy Michelson's Success is No Act

BY KAREN CROKE

Amy MichelsonAmy Michelson is a young designer with a long view of fashion, which draws influences fro her Quaker childhood and her career as an actress.

Michelson designs gorgeous, timeless wedding gowns that evoke the glamour of a bygone Hollywood era. At the same time, she has found time to act in Hollywood films and television. Amy appeared in the films "Wired" and "Burglar" and spent a season on the erstwhile nighttime soap "Falcon Crest" as the amorous, yet tragic character Kelly! Talk about your fashion influences!

Michelson is from Wycoff, N.J., where she grew up in a Quaker family. Amy MichelsonBoth her mother and grandmother were artists, and Michelson got her inspiration from them. She studied fine art at Bard College and fashion at New York's Parsons School of Design. She actually began her career in fashion by renovating antique clothing for celebrities.

By the age of 22, however, Michelson had her own design and manufacturing company. She moved to Los Angeles and started to work as an actress. Though show-biz pals, Amy was introduced to Holly Harp and returned to fashion to design the Amy Michelson for Holly Harp Couture Eveningwear Collection. Her celebrity clientele includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Kim Basinger, Halle Berry, Alanis Morrisette and Salma Hayek

Under her own label, Michelson's silk gowns are cut to look sexy, liquid, and feminine. Her wedding dresses are simple and elegant, enhanced by unique novelty touches such as hand-placed crystals scattered delicately across bias gowns and ethereal veils. These are wedding gowns that evoke the enchantment of Hollywood's golden era, yet still manage to be fresh and of the moment.
