Harlequin Books-- the romance specialists-- named Rancho La Puerta as one of the most romantic spas. Rancho La Puerta is located two miles south of the U.S. border in Baja Mexico. Visitors can fly into or park at the San Diego airport. From there, a cushy custom coach, complete with snacks and a bathroom , will meet you and take you into Mexico. No fuss, no muss, and plenty of fun.

A one-week minimum is usually required at this English-speaking resort where the emphasis is on healthy living. After the second day, the pace relaxes into unhurried heaven.

Rancho La Puerta attracts mother-daughtersister combos, couples, friends, and solo people of all ages.

A huge range of fitness classes is offered on the secure, sprawling compound: hikes, water aerobics, dance, weights, pilates, and yoga. Other activities include movies, art, and lectures. Low-calorie meals feature organic food grown on the property. Spa and salon treatments are extra, but are reasonably priced for luxury spas.
